StoryAsmeret Berhe, 1977-
Asmeret Berhe-Lumax’s widespread upbringing is a constant influence on her life as an Ethiopian- born, Swedish-raised, New York-dwelling mother and activist. Aside from her work in fashion as the head of production at a menswear label, Asmeret is passionate about social justice and is enthusiastically involved in organizations that work towards achieving equality. One in particular is the Phenomenal Girls Club, which aims to instill confidence and leadership skills to young girls of color through the use of exploration, collaboration and mentorship. She also works with Shoe 4 Africa because she strongly believes in their mission: Donations go towards providing health care and education and have been significant enough to open the first hospital in East Africa.
Through her compassion and hard work, Asmeret has not only instilled activist values in her two daughters, but to everyone who is touched by her humanity.
