London Stories: Taj Hayer, Editor

Meet Taj Hayer, editor of The Rakish Gent.

A Day’s March has always been about dressing real people — those who build, create, and move things forward. In this chapter, we spent time in London, meeting individuals from different walks of life, and seeing how each of them makes our core collection their own.

In London, we met with Taj Hayer – writer, editor, and founder of The Rakish Gent. With an instinctive sense for style and storytelling, he’s built a magazine that speaks to men the way friends speak to each other: with honesty, curiosity, and ease.

What made you start The Rakish Gent?

I think I started The Rakish Gent when I realised that there wasn't really a men's magazine around at the time that spoke to me. There were magazines that had lovely editorial, and others that had great interviews but few that combined the two, in a conversational, friendly tone. I wanted to speak about menswear in the same way that you would chat with your best friend in a pub.

Do you have to dig deep to find your creative nature, or do you feel it's natural to you?

To be honest, I think it comes very naturally. I am very lucky to work with incredible photographers, stylists and brands that all bring something, but I really love when we start to think about a new issue, and my mind is full of ideas about stories that we want to bring to life.

Are there any trade secrets you can share with someone who is about to enter your field?

Know your voice. Don't do what everyone else is doing. Surround yourself with the best people that you can, and that align with your vision.

A rational wardrobe for an emotional life. Discover the core collection.
